Originally trained as an actor and singer, Michael taught himself composition, harmony and orchestration and his music theatre compositions include PULLMAN 55, premiered at London’s Cambridge Theatre, the Opera-Play LACRYMOSA, specially commissioned by the Kammeroper for the Vienna Mozart bi-centenary, LAURA, premiered at The Watermill Theatre, Newbury, WHERE THE RIVER MEETS THE SEA, an oratorio commissioned for the ‘Our Town’ stage of the Millennium Dome, and the youth Opera THE SELFISH GIANT commissioned by Southend Music Services. His concert work includes LEIGH SEASONS, for the national music festival winners’ concert in Leeds, WAVE SONGS, a song cycle for soprano, PRELUDE TO A DREAM, for solo ‘cello, organ and choir, and the choral work I HAVE A DREAM, a setting of the famous Martin Luther King Jr. speech for male voice choir. Michael has composed music and lyrics for a new setting of the Dickens classic CHRISTMAS CAROL, which had two seasons at The Crowstone Arts Centre.

His string quartet SUIT SUITE premiered with LONDINIUM IV, the string quartet from The London Philharmonic Orchestra, and his CONCERTO FOR VIOLONCELLO AND ORCHESTRA premiered with The Docklands Sinfonia under Spencer Down with Gregory Walmsley as the soloist.

Recent compositions include ARCADY - four pastoral miniatures which he has written in solo piano version and also in full symphonic score for orchestra and THREE DANCE DUETS FOR UNACCOMPANIED SOLO VIOLIN AND CELLO – both of which have been recorded on the Suit Suite CD,

Michael’s latest work is his first full SYMPHONY – ‘Nexus’.
